IQPAK® performs better in the CO2 balance than all other reusable systems currently in the market due to the low material requirements and the fact that it does not require the energy-intensive washing process.
An environmental assessment report by the Institut für Energie- und Umweltforschung Heidelberg (ifeu) came to this conclusion:
Washing 1,000 commercially available reusable deposit cups produce around 12 kilograms of CO2e. For 1,000 comparably sized IQPAK® cups, it would only be 7.4 kilograms of CO2e if the plastic films of the handling and content layers were not recycled but thermally recovered. As soon as all three layers are made from recycled PP (rPP), 1,000 IQPAK® cups have a cradle-to-grave value of just 3.14 kg CO2e. This means a 56% reduction in emissions compared to a standard reusable deposit cup that has to be washed. With 50 cycles of the system layer, IQPAK® even saves CO2 emissions of between 66% and 83%.
